Kate Hudson on May 30, 2025.
During a recent conversation with PEOPLE, Kate Hudson recounted a surprising on-set injury from filming her new Netflix series, Running Point. Speaking candidly, Hudson described the moment her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, noticed an unexpected bruise. “I was getting into bed, and Danny looked at me and said, ‘Babe, what’s going on?’ The bruise was massive,” she recalled.
Hudson opened up about the experience while attending the Emmy FYC event in Los Angeles on May 30. As the star of the basketball-themed comedy created by Mindy Kaling, she portrays Isla Gordon a woman who steps in as the president of the fictional Los Angeles Waves after her older brother, played by Justin Theroux, abruptly leaves the position.

Reflecting on the physical toll of the role, Hudson shared that she accumulated “so many bruises” throughout the shoot. One particularly notable injury appeared on her left thigh, prompting concern from Fujikawa. “He saw it and asked what happened, and I honestly wasn’t sure. I just said, ‘That’s weird. Something’s wrong.’”
The culprit turned out to be a drawer her character repeatedly ran into during a recurring scene. “In one episode, Isla discovers a hidden stash of drugs in a drawer she inherited with the office,” Hudson explained, laughing. “I kept hitting that same drawer over and over until we finally had a scene where my half-brother, played by Fabrizio Guido, helped get it out of the way. I had been fighting that drawer for two weeks. Total war wounds.”
Despite the bumps and bruises, Hudson said the experience was well worth it and found joy in the camaraderie among the cast. After long days of filming, she admitted her favorite way to unwind was simple: “Lots of drinks with the boys. We loved our little after-work cocktail hour.”
She was joined at the FYC event by a lineup of co-stars, including Drew Tarver, Brenda Song, Toby Sandeman, Scott MacArthur, Chet Hanks, and Max Greenfield, all of whom have grown close behind the scenes.
