'The Care Bears Movie'
The much-cherished Care Bears are preparing to spread warmth and cheer once again, with a new movie project in the pipeline. Josh Greenbaum has been tapped to direct this heartwarming venture, now in the nascent stages at Warner Bros. However, details on the script and storyline remain under wraps, and a screenwriter is yet to be revealed.
The production team is studded with prolific names. Chris Bender and Jake Weiner join forces with Good Fear, while Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley lend their expertise from GoldDay, both marking their presence as producers. Meanwhile, the executive producing reigns are held by Sean Gorman and Daniel Barnes from Cloudco. Overseeing this passion project for Warner Bros is Sheila Walcott.
The beloved Care Bears first made their mark in the early ’80s, initially featured on greeting cards before taking the small screen by storm later that decade. Their cinematic journey commenced with the 1985 animated film The Care Bears Movie, which boasted Hollywood veteran Mickey Rooney among its cast. Conceived by the creative minds of Elena Kucharik and Linda Denham, these endearing characters are best known for the emblematic symbols on their bellies that encapsulate their individualized personas.
Greenbaum’s directorial portfolio includes notable titles like Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Strays, and the insightful documentary Will & Harper. He is currently wrapping up The Dink, a pickleball-themed film showcasing stars such as Ben Stiller and Jake Johnson. Additionally, Greenbaum is slated to helm a sequel to the cult classic Spaceballs for Amazon MGM Studios.
The Care Bears brand, which continues to thrive under Cloudco Entertainment previously recognized as American Greetings Entertainment recently introduced audiences to Care Bears: Unlock the Magic. Publicity and representation detail the involvement of agencies like UTA, Entertainment 360, and Lichter Grossman for Greenbaum. Daley and Goldstein benefit from the combined efforts of CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen Jacobson. Meanwhile, Bender and Weiner find their representation through Mortimer PR alongside Rick Genow & Allison Binder.
