Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2025).
Tom Felton is set to once again stir the cauldron of nostalgia as he grasps his wand and transforms back into the beloved character of Draco Malfoy after a 14-year hiatus. Making a grand entrance on Broadway, this marks the first instance of an original film cast member stepping into the world of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, slated for this fall. Felton, replacing Aaron Bartz, will grace the stage of the Lyric Theatre in New York City starting November 11, for a mesmerizing 19-week limited engagement. “It’s truly a pinch-me moment,” Felton confessed as the thrilling news unfolded on the Today show this past June 5.
Once again wrapped in the Slytherin green, the now 37-year-old actor, who once captivated audiences as the haughty yet tormented Draco from 2001 to 2011, is ready to enchant Broadway audiences. His return not only revives a cherished character but also breathes new life into the enchanting narrative that unspools 19 years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. With an unprecedented theatrical run commencing in London in 2016, this magical tale first touched down on the Broadway stage in 2018.
Felton shared his excitement on Today, remarking, “I still can’t believe it; I often feel like I’m in a dream. Stepping back into Draco’s shoes 16 years later, as a father in a novel narrative, is exhilarating.” His heartfelt testimony continued as he admitted, “When I slipped into the character’s iconic platinum wig once again for the stage, I couldn’t help but shed a tear. The original franchise was a monumental chapter of my childhood.”

Excitement rolls like a tidal wave as Felton expressed, “I’ve kept this revelation tucked away for some time now,” highlighting his eagerness to finally share it with his fans. In a statement shared through Today, Felton declared, “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Joining this production will bring me full circle because as I step into Cursed Child this fall, I’ll be the exact age Draco is in the play.”
In this spellbinding return, Felton steps back into the cherished realm with a mixture of disbelief and delight, “It’s surreal to embrace his persona again down to the emblematic blond hair,” Felton joyfully added. “Embarking on this adventure with the greatest fan community is thrilling, and I’m excited to join this astounding company as part of the theatrical community.”
As the magical curtain rises 19 years beyond the canon’s concluding chapter, faithful followers find themselves once again at Platform 9 3/4. Cursed Child picks up with Harry and Ginny, saying farewell to their son Albus as he embarks on his own Hogwarts journey. Streamlined to a tighter format post-pandemic, this theatrical extravaganza promises an experience filled with awe.
Filmmaker Chris Columbus, the visionary behind the first two cinematic pieces, hinted at his desire to adapt Cursed Child for the screen. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2021, he remarked on the joy of reuniting the original trio, suggesting that “Watching Dan, Rupert, and Emma reprise their roles is a cinematic dream come true.”
Meanwhile, Felton isn’t holding back his affection for the Wizarding World; in June 2021, he told PEOPLE, “I’d absolutely reprise any Malfoy role even as Draco’s steadfast father Lucius or his dynamic son, Scorpius.” He exclaimed, “If bleaching my hair signifies another chance to be a Malfoy, count me in!” As tickets for Felton’s Broadway spell go on sale starting June 12, fans can hardly wait to dive headlong into the magic once more.
