David Tennant and Pedro Pascal
Pedro Pascal faced unexpected competition for his highly anticipated role as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel’s upcoming film.
During an insightful talk at MCM Comic Con, an enthusiastic fan questioned David Tennant about his superhero aspirations on the big screen. Tennant candidly confessed that he had hoped to portray the role that ultimately went to Pascal in Marvel’s eagerly awaited The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“When it comes to superheroes, I had a slight interest in Reed Richards,” the Doctor Who alum shared with palpable admiration. “Unfortunately, it seems they’ve chosen a different path. Yet, if anyone had to take it, I’m genuinely thrilled that it’s Pedro Pascal, without a doubt.”
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to dazzle audiences on July 25, features an impressive cast including Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn portraying Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Julia Garner taking on the Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. The storyline follows the Fantastic Four as they safeguard Earth from a cosmic menace, Galactus, and his mysterious ally, the Silver Surfer, all while navigating the trials of heroism and familial bonds.
As the conversation continued at MCM Comic Con, Tennant was questioned by the moderator about whether he had seen the now-famous Vanity Fair lie detector video, where Pascal humorously claims the title of “the bigger daddy” in comparison to Oscar Isaac. Tennant admitted he had not seen the clip but played along when asked, “Who’s the bigger daddy, you or Pedro Pascal?”
“What’s the criteria?” the Broadchurch star responded with a grin, adding, “It would certainly be him; he’s Mister Fantastic, in every sense of the word. I think Pedro Pascal is fantastic. I’m really, truly glad he’s around.”
