The decision follows Netflix’s viewership decline reports, with figures showing a staggering 60 percent drop from the first half of 2023 to the latter part of 2024, despite four fresh seasons being aired in 2024. However, there’s more intrigue; a source intimate with the negotiations revealed Netflix’s attempt to renew the license at a heftier sum, only for Disney to outbid them in a surprise move.
CoComelon’s arrival to Disney+ dovetails smoothly with its impressive lineup of children’s programming, including hits like Bluey, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, and the enduring Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
While Netflix relinquishes the global streaming rights for CoComelon, it will continue to host its spinoff, Cocomelon Lane, alongside other family favorites like Blippi. Despite CoComelon’s departure, kids’ content remains a vital component of Netflix’s growth, accounting for 15 percent of their total viewership, bolstered by popular titles like Sesame Street, Ms. Rachel, Gabby’s Dollhouse, and Peppa Pig.
