Felicity Huffman is not only voicing her enthusiasm for the eagerly awaited Desperate Housewives reboot, she’s also playfully hinting at her own behind the scenes return in a refreshingly unexpected way. In a spirited conversation on Good Morning America, under the bright light of a late May morning, the 62 year old actress couldn’t hide her excitement.
“Isn’t it amazing? They’re reimagining Wisteria Lane with women of color, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Huffman beamed on Wednesday, May 28. Then, with a wink, she quipped, “I think I’ll handle the craft services for it.” The new chapter, helmed by the acclaimed Kerry Washington as executive producer, has Huffman full of praise. “I just think it’s wonderful,” she added warmly.
When asked who she could see stepping into her iconic role as Lynette, Huffman laughed and admitted, “Oh my god, I haven’t a clue. Honestly, many could outshine me, and I’m so excited to see who it will be.”
Desperate Housewives, the iconic series that aired from 2004 to 2012 on ABC, left an indelible mark on pop culture with its tales of friendship, betrayal, and mystery set against the pristine backdrop of Fairview’s Wisteria Lane. Starring Huffman alongside Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, and Nicollette Sheridan, the show captivated audiences for eight seasons and occasionally made headlines for rumored tensions behind the scenes.
As the series reached its twentieth anniversary in June 2024, Eva Longoria, now 50, reflected on her relationships with the original cast in an interview with the Daily Mail. “Felicity and I are always in touch. I talk to Marcia often. But the ones I’m probably closest to are Ricardo Chavira, who played my husband, and Jesse Metcalfe.”
Longoria has long pushed back against the persistent rumors of discord among the cast. During a conversation on the Armchair Expert podcast in November 2023, she shared her perspective: “Back then, all the gossip was about us women. There were so many shows with men, but no one ever said, ‘They’re feuding.’”
She credited her co stars with offering a valuable perspective. “They understood how fame worked. When I heard people whispering about drama, they would gently remind me, ‘This is just the narrative being pushed because we’re women over 40 on television.’ I didn’t really grasp it at the time, but now I see how right they were.”
Longoria recalled how that outside noise felt distant and irrelevant. “We had our own world with each other and our crew. The gossip felt like a riddle whispered beyond our gates never quite real.”
The upcoming series, titled simply Wisteria Lane, aims to recapture the spirit of its predecessor while bringing fresh voices and perspectives to the forefront. Its premise promises a mix of mystery, charm, and simmering secrets. “A captivating blend of seduction, intrigue, and razor sharp humor,” the synopsis reads, “woven through the lives of five distinct women friends, rivals, or both who share the idyllic cul de sac of Wisteria Lane. With polished homes, beautiful families, and picture perfect lives displayed across social media, one might think they have it all. But beneath the surface lies a web of secrets waiting to be unraveled.”
