Kobe and Gianna Bryant.
The heart of Los Angeles, once again, saw an act of disrespect as the beloved ‘Mambas Forever’ mural was defaced. Nestled in downtown, this homage to Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna fell victim to vandals’ spray paint twice in a mere month, reports Anna Lazarus Caplan of PEOPLE.
Having joined PEOPLE in 2022, Caplan’s journey through journalism includes prior contributions to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Dallas Morning News, Eater, among others.
The mural’s plight made headlines again on June 4, 2025, challenging the community and the artist responsible for its creation, Louie Palsino, known professionally as Sloe Motions.
Essential Information: A poignant tribute to Kobe and Gigi Bryant has been marred once more, this time in the wake of its recent restoration in Downtown Los Angeles. The artist has declared plans to relocate the mural.

The tribute to the late NBA legend and his daughter had just been meticulously returned to its original condition on May 30. Nevertheless, KNBC-TV confirmed that it succumbed to another attack by vandals armed with white spray paint.
Initially desecrated in April, the mural at Main and 14th Street by local artist Sloe Motions, real name Louie Palsino, will now likely find a new home. Palsino revealed this strategic shift in a heartfelt declaration to the press.

In his statement, Palsino shares his upcoming endeavors, “Everything happens for a reason and we now want to reach out and get this piece done in collaboration with another business or foundation, all donated by us at no charge to the new location. The project will be better than the last with a proper wall, whether indoor or outdoor, for our community and people to appreciate.”
Presenting a poignant moment: Kobe, adorned in his Lakers gear, shares a gentle kiss with Gigi, a basketball in hand. The phrase ‘Mambas Forever’ accompanies the touching scene.
Post the mural’s first incident, Palsino initiated a GoFundMe to aid its repair. In a swift gesture of solidarity and respect, Lakers star Luka Dončić contributed the full $5,000 goal.
Reflecting on his motivations, Dončić expressed, “Kobe is L.A. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization, and to me personally. I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored.”
Palsino, confiding in CBS affiliate KCAL-TV, shared his deeper concerns. Beyond tarnishing his artistic homage, he fears the vandals are chipping away at Bryant’s enduring legacy.
“We didn’t want that disrespect to L.A. right here, and for people to see that, especially Vanessa,” Palsino emphasized, underscoring Bryant’s luminescent impact. “Kobe has brought nothing but light and insight and inspiration to the youth.”
The story of this mural proves not just an image on a wall but a canvas of community spirit and resilience amid adversity.
