Josh Duhamel
The 52-year-old actor provided Us Weekly with an exclusive update about the progress of season 2 for the acclaimed Netflix series following his gift of a Bobcat UV34XL utility vehicle to the firefighters of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Station 88.
“I know that they’ve been writing,” Duhamel disclosed when discussing the Bobcat Company’s ‘Work Worth Doing’ campaign. “They’ve been in the writer’s room now for several months writing the second season, but that doesn’t mean [Netflix] is necessarily going to pick it up.”
Guided by showrunner April Blair, Ransom Canyon centers around Duhamel’s character, Staten Kirkland, as he defends his ranch and the people he cherishes. While the official greenlight for season 2 remains uncertain, Duhamel expressed his aspirations for the series’ continuation. He hopes the show, featuring Minka Kelly as dancehall owner Quinn O’Grady, retains its unexpected twists and gritty charm. “April Blair does an amazing job with running the show so I’d imagine they’re coming up with something fun,” Duhamel commented. “I think the romance stuff [with Kelly’s character Quinn] is really fun, but I want to keep it unpredictable. A little bit dangerous at times; doing things that the audience may not always agree with.”
He emphasized the importance of grounding the series’ narratives in authenticity, affirming, “everything’s got to happen for a reason.”
The actor’s remarks came after he surprised Station 88 firefighters with a $20,000 Bobcat UTV, a crucial asset designed to bolster the unit’s capacity in combating future fires. These firefighters, who contended with the early 2025 LA wildfires, constitute the LAFD’s inaugural full-time, salaried hand crew.
“I really do have such mad respect for what they do,” Duhamel stated following his presentation of swag bags and lunches, a gesture supported by Bobcat. “I’m so grateful for the work they do because anybody who lives here understands that we need a strong crew of firefighters. Whenever I get a chance to help support them, whether it’s a charity or with Bobcat giving away the UTV, it’s a great cause.”
