Prepare for more excitement from the Yellowstone universe as Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes, steps into the spotlight with the new spinoff, ‘Y: Marshals.’
The Yellowstone Legacy Continues
Since its 2018 debut, Yellowstone has captivated audiences with its gripping tale of the Dutton family and their sprawling Montana ranch. Creator Taylor Sheridan expanded this universe with prequels like 1883 and 1923. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the latest chapter, Y: Marshals, following the conclusion of Yellowstone in December 2024.
“Cowboys don’t say goodbye, they say see you later,” Grimes expressed on Instagram, capturing the excitement surrounding the new series.
Luke Grimes, Actor
CBS has announced that Y: Marshals will hit the screens in spring 2026 as a midseason replacement, airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
Behind the Scenes
Taking charge of this thrilling new series is Spencer Hudnut, known for his work on SEAL Team. He serves as the show’s writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Taylor Sheridan stays involved as an executive producer, although, according to CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach, “In terms of Taylor’s involvement, we’re still early in the process. He’s a very busy guy, but we’ll take what we can get.”
The Plot Unfolds
According to the official synopsis, Y: Marshals chronicles Kayce Dutton’s departure from ranch life to join an elite U.S. Marshals unit. Combining his cowboy expertise with his Navy SEAL background, Kayce aims to deliver justice in a turbulent Montana, all while grappling with familial ties and the psychological toll of his vocation.
Meet the Cast
Joining Grimes are Arielle Kebbel as Belle, Ash Santos as Andrea, and Tatanka Means as Miles—fellow members of the elite Marshals team. Brett Cullen will play Harry Gifford, leading the U.S. Marshals in Montana. Additionally, Gil Birmingham returns as Thomas Rainwater, with Mo Brings Plenty as Mo and Brecken Merrill as Kayce’s son, Tate.
Kelly Reilly is set to headline another spinoff with Cole Hauser, although details remain under wraps. Kevin Costner, following the death of his character, will not be returning, except potentially in flashbacks. There’s still speculation about Wes Bentley’s involvement as Jamie Dutton.
Who’s Missing?
The absence of Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Kayce’s wife, Monica Dutton, is notable, as her participation in Y: Marshals has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, in teaser footage, Kayce remarks, “I’m changing paths. Trying to find a new beginning.”
