Mark Sanchez honors the memory of his former New York Jets teammate Nick Mangold, who passed away at 41.
A Fond Farewell
Mark Sanchez took to Instagram on Sunday to pay tribute to Nick Mangold, his former New York Jets teammate. Mangold, who tragically passed away on Saturday from complications of kidney disease, played alongside Sanchez from 2009 to 2012.
“We lost a good man today,” Sanchez wrote. “I know @realnickmangold will be a hall-of-famer, but there’s more to his story than his accomplishments on the gridiron. He was more than a teammate. He was my big brother who introduced me to the NFL. He showed me the ropes. He was my friend and confidant. He was a role model and a great father to his children and husband to his wife. Our hearts are heavy. We will miss you. Rest easy amigo. I love you big fella. #74.”
The heartfelt post, which included photos of the two during Jets games and a Sports Illustrated cover, marked Sanchez’s return to social media following a recent period of silence and legal turmoil.
Recent Legal Challenges
Sanchez’s tribute comes on the heels of his recent arrest and hospitalization following a stabbing incident. Earlier this month, the Fox Sports analyst was arrested in Indianapolis after a confrontation with a 69-year-old truck driver over parking.
According to the Associated Press, the altercation escalated when the truck driver, claiming self-defense, pulled out a knife, leading to Sanchez’s serious injuries. On October 6, Sanchez faced a charge of level five felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, which carries a potential sentence of up to six years in prison. His trial is scheduled for December 11.
