Tish Cyrus and Miley Cyrus attend the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Crypto.com Arena on February 02, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
In a heartfelt interview, Miley Cyrus opened up about the tender emotions that inspired her latest single, “End of the World,” from her newly released album Something Beautiful. The song was born out of the intense feelings she experienced while her mother, Tish Cyrus, took a solo trip to Italy. Miley admitted that the brief separation made her feel as if her world had stopped.
Known for her incredibly close bond with her mother, Miley shared how touring without Tish by her side has been an emotional adjustment. “We’re so close. It’s really hard for me,” she confessed. The album, which arrived on May 30, captures that profound mother-daughter connection.
Recalling a moment from her feature in The New York Times, Miley explained, “She went to Italy without me for a week, and it truly felt like the end of the world for both of us.” It was the first time Tish had traveled abroad without her daughter, and despite being in her thirties, Miley found the separation deeply unsettling.

In a touching exchange, Tish called her daughter and said, “I don’t know why, but I want to cry today. I’m looking out my window, and it feels like there’s nothing out there for me, because you’re not here.” That very sentiment would go on to shape the opening line of the song: “Today you woke up and you told me that you wanted to cry.”
Miley shared that singing those words to her mother during a performance at the Chateau Marmont was incredibly moving. “My mom was right in the front row. There’s a part in the song that says, ‘You’ve been thinking about the future like it’s already yours,’ and it always gets me. That lyric reminds me how fragile time is, how nothing is promised,” she reflected.

Thinking about a future without her mom is a thought Miley finds heartbreaking. “Worrying about tomorrow is pointless, but imagining a world without her that just breaks my heart,” she said softly.
Though she continues to grow into her independence, Miley admits that part of her still longs for that maternal safety. “My mom doesn’t travel with me anymore, and I know it was time. I’m 33 now, and it was starting to feel a little silly,” she laughed gently. “But she always made me feel safe. Any time I was uncomfortable or overwhelmed, she could fix it. Now I just try to be that comfort for myself.”
In early May, Miley addressed rumors surrounding her mother’s social media activity, clarifying that nothing could ever come between them. “She’s my best friend. That’s just who we are,” she wrote on Instagram. She also offered kind words about her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, acknowledging past struggles while embracing peace and healing within their family.
“Now, in my thirties, my family is everything. I’m grateful for the love we share, the bridges we’ve rebuilt, and the good health we enjoy together,” she concluded.
