The mystery deepens around the disappearance of 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, last seen with her mother, Ashlee, in what authorities describe as a potential disguise.
Melodee’s Disappearance
On October 14, Melodee Buzzard was reported missing by a local school official, sparking a fervent search across state lines. According to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, security camera footage allegedly showed Melodee in a wig, possibly as an attempt to conceal her identity.
Authorities found Ashlee Buzzard at their Lompoc, California home but could not locate Melodee. Allegedly, Ashlee could not provide a \\”verifiable explanation\\” for her daughter’s whereabouts. Despite her lack of cooperation, Ashlee has not been named a person of interest, nor has she faced any charges related to Melodee’s disappearance.
Family Speaks Out
As the search for Melodee continues, her relatives are shedding light on the family dynamics prior to her disappearance. Relatives from Melodee’s father’s side, according to KEYT reports, claim that Ashlee prevented them from maintaining contact with Melodee. Bridgett Truitt, Melodee’s paternal aunt, expressed her frustration, \\”She hasn’t let us see her for a few years… And all of us have tried. But we never stopped thinking about her or loving her or praying for her.\\”
The family faced tragedy when Melodee’s father, Rubiell Meza, passed away in a vehicle accident in 2016, leaving Melodee in Ashlee’s care. Even Lori Miranda, Ashlee’s mother, shared with KSBY that she had not spoken with her granddaughter in two years, learning about Melodee’s situation only through police inquiry.
Altered Appearance Report
Investigators recently updated the public, suggesting Melodee’s appearance had been altered with a wig before she went missing. The community and the family cling to hope for Melodee’s safe return.
Lori Miranda has held onto birthday gifts since February, waiting for the day she can reunite with Melodee. Meanwhile, authorities reiterate their call for information about the missing girl. Melodee is described as around 4 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 60 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 681-4150, use the anonymous tip line at (805) 681-4171, or visit their website.
Miranda told KSBY she has been holding on to birthday gifts for the child since February.
