Prince William and Princess Kate have some heartwarming news to share—their beloved cocker spaniel, Orla, has given birth to a litter of adorable puppies, according to The Sun.
“Mother and babies are doing well,” a source confirmed, adding that the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children—Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7)—are already smitten with the new arrivals. The insider hinted the family is considering keeping the pups, though Buckingham Palace has yet to officially confirm the news.
“Everyone loves royal baby news—and new royal puppies come pretty close,” the source quipped.
Orla joined the Wales family in 2020 after James Middleton, Kate’s younger brother, announced that his dog Luna had delivered six healthy pups. At the time, James shared the joyful update on Instagram, reassuring fans that all the puppies were headed to loving homes.
The name Orla, which means “golden princess” in Celtic, was revealed in portraits released for Princess Charlotte’s 7th birthday. The sweet tribute reflects both the dog’s regal charm and her place in the family.
Orla’s arrival came shortly before the passing of the family’s previous dog, Lupo, in November 2020. Lupo, also a black cocker spaniel, had been a treasured gift from James Middleton following the royal couple’s 2011 wedding and was a constant companion during Prince William’s deployment to the Falkland Islands.
On April 11, to mark National Pet Day, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a rare photo of Orla on their official Instagram account. The image showed the glossy-coated spaniel silhouetted against lush greenery, celebrating her adventurous and affectionate nature.
“Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay,” the caption read, ending with a playful paw print emoji.
James Middleton joined in the sentiment, commenting: “Beautiful in every way.”
Since her debut, Orla has become a fixture at royal events, appearing alongside Princess Charlotte in birthday portraits and accompanying Kate to the Royal Charity Polo Cup in July 2022. With a new generation of puppies in the royal household, Orla’s legacy of loyalty and charm continues to flourish.
