Sadie Robertson found herself overwhelmed with emotion as she revisited past episodes of Duck Dynasty featuring her grandfather, Phil Robertson, following his recent passing at age 79.
“We’ve been watching a lot of the old Duck Dynasty, which I’ve never actually done. I’ve never gone back and rewatched,” Sadie, now 27, shared in an exclusive discussion with Us Weekly for a May cover story. “The first few episodes we watched, I just cried every time I saw scenes with my grandparents. I’m so glad that I have this to see my grandparents when they were at their best and how they were just thriving.”
Sadie and her family are poised to make a triumphant return to reality television with Duck Dynasty: The Revival, slated for a premiere on Sunday, June 1.
Sadie’s elder sister, Rebecca Robertson, mentioned that their grandmother, Kay Robertson, initially participated in filming the new series — a plan that has since been modified. “In the beginning, we were doing a lot of scenes with her, but now it’s like she’s not able to be on the show,” Rebecca, now 36, revealed. “I’m just really hoping some of the clips we got with her we’re able to still put in the show because it’s just so special.”
Sadie cherishes the joyful moments spent with her grandparents during the filming of this new chapter. “It’s going to be so cool one day to look back and see me have this baby. See our girls growing up on TV with Honey and Haven being such a part of it,” she said. “I don’t know, going back and watching them now, being at the state they’re at, it’s sweet to know that we’re documenting things for our family in the same way.”
Sadie and Rebecca are the eldest daughters of Duck Dynasty notables Korie and Willie Robertson, who also parent John Luke, 29, Will, 23, Bella, 22, and Rowdy, 22. Sadie, married to Christian Huff, shares daughters Honey, 3, and Haven, 2. In February, Sadie announced they are expecting baby number three.
In her Us Weekly interview, conducted before Phil’s passing, Sadie admitted that her grandparents Phil and Kay were enduring a “really tough” period due to Phil’s declining health. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in December 2024. “He is not doing great, and she is honestly not doing great either,” Sadie confessed. “I will say, a silver lining, blessing in disguise is that their love for one another is so prevalent in the most beautiful way through such a tragic situation.”
She continued, “It has been very hard to watch them go through what they’ve gone through but seeing them comfort each other has been really, really beautiful.”
On Sunday, May 25, Korie, 51, announced Phil’s passing via social media. “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” she wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, by his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”
