Uche Ojeh and Sheinelle Jones
With heavy hearts, the Today show shared somber news on Friday: Uche Ojeh, beloved husband of co-anchor Sheinelle Jones, has passed away at the age of 45 after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.
Savannah Guthrie delivered the emotional announcement on air, extending the show’s deepest sympathies to Sheinelle and the couple’s three young children.
“Uche was an incredible person who touched us all,” Guthrie said. “We want to take a moment to honor the extraordinary man who stood as Sheinelle’s steadfast partner in life.”
Ojeh was more than a husband and father—he also led a successful career at UAO Consulting, where he worked for over a decade. His warmth and dedication made him a cherished presence in both professional and personal circles.
Co-host Craig Melvin reflected on a memory from a golf outing last fall.
“He was a man deeply devoted to his kids,” Melvin said. “Every game, every concert, every recital—Uche was there, beaming with pride from the sidelines.”
Since December, viewers had noted Sheinelle’s extended absence from Today, a decision she made to focus on her family during Ojeh’s illness. That quiet absence now takes on new, poignant meaning.
Sheinelle Jones joined the Today team in 2014 and became a key part of the third-hour lineup in 2019. Her vibrant energy and heartfelt connections with co-hosts like Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin made her a central figure on the show.
She and Uche shared a beautiful story that began at Northwestern University. They first met during a campus visit—Sheinelle was giving tours as a student when Uche, then a high school senior, happened to join her group. That chance meeting sparked a lifelong romance. Years later, Uche proposed on that very campus.
As the Today family and viewers across the nation mourn, the memory of Uche Ojeh lives on—a devoted husband, father, and friend whose presence brought light and love to those around him. His life is a lasting reminder of strength, commitment, and unwavering love.
