The “Mambas Forever” mural, a heartfelt tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, has once again been defaced by vandals in Los Angeles. Located at Main and 14th Street, this vibrant artwork by Los Angeles-based artist Sloe Motions, whose real name is Louie Palsino, was recently restored only to face a second act of vandalism via spray paint.
A Tribute to Kobe and Gianna
Unveiled in April, the mural depicts Kobe Bryant in his iconic Lakers uniform tenderly kissing his daughter Gigi, who holds a basketball, with the words “Mambas Forever” prominently displayed. The artwork serves as a powerful homage to the basketball legend and his daughter, whose lives were tragically lost.
Response to Vandalism

Following the first incident of vandalism, Palsino launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund the mural’s restoration. The campaign received overwhelming support, including a generous $5,000 donation from Lakers star Luka Dončić. “Kobe is L.A. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization, and to me personally,” Dončić said. “I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored.”
Despite the successful restoration, the mural’s second defacement has prompted Palsino to consider relocating it. “Everything happens for a reason, and we now want to reach out and get this piece done in collaboration with another business or foundation, all donated by us and no charge to the new location,” Palsino stated. He envisions a new home for the mural, whether indoor or outdoor, where it can be appreciated by the community without fear of further damage.
Impact on the Artist and Community
The repeated vandalism has been deeply disheartening for Palsino, who shared his concerns with CBS affiliate KCAL-TV. He noted that the acts not only damage his work but also risk tarnishing Kobe Bryant’s enduring legacy. “We didn’t want that disrespect to L.A. right here, and for people to see that, especially Vanessa,” Palsino said, referring to Kobe’s widow. “Kobe has brought nothing but light and insight and inspiration to the youth.”
A Legacy That Endures
Despite the challenges, the spirit of the “Mambas Forever” mural remains unbroken, much like the legacy of Kobe and Gianna. As Palsino searches for a new location to preserve this tribute, the mural continues to symbolize the inspiration and love that Kobe and Gigi inspire in their fans and the Los Angeles community.
